Remicade Dosage

The Remicade dosage that you are prescribed depends on your age and weight, the medical condition being treated, existing medical conditions, and other medications you may be taking. The dose comes in the form of an injection and is administered intravenously. Depending on the condition being treated, Remicade dosages are usually given more frequently at the beginning of the treatment, followed by doses every six to eight weeks.

Remicade Dosage: An Overview

The dose of Remicade® (infliximab) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:

  • Your age and weight
  • The medical condition being treated
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may currently be taking.

Remicade Dosage for Psoriatic Arthritis, Plaque Psoriasis, and Ulcerative Colitis

The recommended dose of Remicade for these conditions in adults is Remicade 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two Remicade doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, Remicade doses should be given every eight weeks.

Remicade Dosage for Ankylosing Spondylitis

The recommended dose of Remicade for ankylosing spondylitis is Remicade 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two Remicade doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, Remicade doses should be given every six weeks.

Remicade Dosage for Crohn's Disease

For adults and children with Crohn's disease, the recommended dose is Remicade 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two Remicade doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, the doses should be given every eight weeks. If Remicade seems to lose its effectiveness in adults who have initially responded well to the drug, the dose can be increased up to Remicade 10 mg per kg (about 4.5 mg per pound) every eight weeks. However, the maximum dose of Remicade for people with moderate to severe heart failure (for any use) is 5 mg per kg (2.3 mg per pound) per dose.
