Remicade Dosage: An Overview
The dose of
Remicade® (
infliximab) your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
- Your age and weight
- The medical condition being treated
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may be taking.
What Is the Dose for Psoriatic Arthritis, Plaque Psoriasis, and Ulcerative Colitis?
The recommended dose for these conditions in adults is Remicade 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two Remicade doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, the medication should be given every eight weeks.
Dose of Remicade for Ankylosing Spondylitis
The recommended dosage of Remicade for
ankylosing spondylitis is 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, Remicade should be given every six weeks.
What Is the Dosage for Crohn's Disease?
For adults and children with
Crohn's disease, the recommended dose is Remicade 5 mg per kg (about 2.3 mg per pound) given intravenously (by IV). Your next two doses should be given two and six weeks after the first dose. After that, the doses should be given every eight weeks. If Remicade seems to lose its effectiveness in adults who have initially responded well to the drug, the dosage can be increased up to 10 mg per kg (about 4.5 mg per pound) every eight weeks. However, the maximum dose of Remicade for people with moderate to severe
heart failure (for any use) is 5 mg per kg (2.3 mg per pound) per dose.
