Septic Arthritis Symptoms (Cont.)

Which Joints Are Commonly Affected by Septic Arthritis?

In most cases, septic arthritis affects only one joint, with bacteria preferring the large weight-bearing joints. Infants are most likely to develop septic arthritis in the hip; children and adults are most likely to develop it in the knee.

The ankle, wrist, shoulder, elbow, and joints of the spine are less frequently affected.
