Synvisc® (hylan G-F 20) is a treatment approved for arthritis of the knee. It is a gel-like liquid that is injected directly into the knee to lubricate and cushion the joint. The product is generally given to people who have not experienced adequate pain relief from other osteoarthritis treatments but who are not yet good candidates for knee replacement surgery. Potential side effects of Synvisc include fluid buildup around the knee, knee pain, and knee swelling.
