Voltaren Drug Interactions (Cont.)

Interactions With Voltaren Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Voltaren is taken with other drugs.

Warfarin
If you are taking blood thinners, such as warfarin, while taking Voltaren, your body may metabolize them differently than intended. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your INR and prothrombin time more frequently and adjust your dosage accordingly. INR and prothrombin time are tests used to measure how well your blood is clotting.

Other Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Using these pain relievers with Voltaren can increase the risk of bleeding. Acetaminophen (Tylenol®) products can be safely used, however.

Aspirin
Aspirin and Voltaren can be used together; however, studies have indicated that the risk of stomach ulcers is higher when these medicines are combined. Talk to your healthcare provider about combining these medications in your particular situation.

ACE Inhibitors
Voltaren may inhibit the blood pressure-lowering effects of ACE inhibitors. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs to prevent this interaction from occurring.

Diuretics
Voltaren may reduce the activity of diuretics. As a result, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs to prevent this interaction.

Lithium
Taking Voltaren and lithium together may increase the levels of lithium in your body by decreasing the amount removed by the kidneys. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your dose of these drugs and monitor the level of lithium in your blood.
