Side Effects of Xarelto

Just like any medicine, Xarelto may cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. Most people tolerate it quite well. However, as with similar medications, Xarelto can cause serious bleeding, including potentially fatal internal bleeding.

  • Fluid leakage in or around your surgical incision

Important Information for Your Healthcare Provider

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking Xarelto if you have:
 
  • A bleeding disorder (not a clotting disorder)
  • Intestinal or stomach ulcers or bleeding
  • Bleeding in the brain
  • An aneurysm
  • Plans to receive spinal or epidural anesthesia or spinal puncture
  • A prosthetic heart valve
  • Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure)
  • Liver disease, such as hepatitis, liver failure, or cirrhosis
  • Any allergies, including to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
 
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
 
 
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all of the medicines you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
