Zarelto

Were you looking for more information about Xarelto? Zarelto is a common misspelling of Xarelto.

Available by prescription only, Xarelto® (rivaroxaban) is a medication approved for preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT, or blood clots) in people who have surgery to replace a knee or hip. It also prevents blood clots and strokes in people with an irregular heart rhythm known as atrial fibrillation. Most recently, it was also approved for the treatment of blood clots (as well as to prevent such clots from recurring). It is approved for adults, and works by slowing down clot formation so the body has time to break down clots naturally.

Unlike other "blood-thinning" medications that must be injected, Xarelto comes as a tablet that is taken by mouth once daily. Most people tolerate this drug well, but side effects may occur and can include itching and potentially serious bleeding.
