Zydone

Zydone is a prescription medication that contains two different substances: a pain reliever and a narcotic. As a result, the drug is effective at treating moderate to somewhat severe pain. Zydone is available in tablet form, and is typically taken as needed for pain or every four to six hours. Follow your dosing guidelines carefully, as too much Zydone can lead to liver failure.

 

What Is Zydone?

Zydone® (hydrocodone/APAP) is a prescription pain medication. As a narcotic, it is classified as a controlled substance, which means that special regulations and laws control its sale and use. Zydone is approved to treat moderate to moderately severe pain.

How Does Zydone Work?

Zydone contains two different medications: acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate. Acetaminophen ("APAP") is a pain reliever and fever reducer commonly found in non-prescription medications such as Tylenol®. APAP is an acronym for one of the chemical names of acetaminophen.
 
Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic narcotic, opioid pain reliever. It is similar to codeine. Hydrocodone is effective at decreasing pain and relieving coughing, but also causes drowsiness, mood changes, and mental "clouding." In the United States, hydrocodone is only available in combination with other medications; it is not available alone. Combining it with acetaminophen helps improve Zydone's effectiveness at relieving pain.
